Perched on the beach's edge, these five whimsical follies have become the signature
of South Beach. "Some of the most memorable new buildings in South Beach are also
the smallest," touts Architecture magazine. The stands have continued to gather
popularity in local, national, and international press, and were awarded the AIA
Award for Excellence in Design. In an effort to include as many "readings" of the
stands by as diverse a group of people as possible, we referenced and overlapped
cultural images ranging from the Jetsons cartoons to Shinto temples to miniature
golf. In addition, free forms and deco/pop inspired colors enhance the simple
construction of bolted and nailed wood members.
